The Hidden Self
The Hidden Self explores the quiet tension between outward appearance and inner identity. A solitary figure turns toward a mirror-like opening, where only fragments of the face emerge—watchful, vulnerable, and partially concealed. The sweeping crimson form behind the figure suggests memory, emotion, or an unseen presence pressing against the surface.
Built through layered acrylic and oil, etched textures, muted earth tones, and softened coral accents, the painting feels both intimate and mysterious. It reflects the private self that remains hidden beneath social roles, personal history, and the image presented to the outside world.

The Artist’s Story
Born in Gali, Abkhazia, Manana Gegidze is a self-taught Georgian artist whose work emerged from a deep connection with nature, memory, and personal resilience.
Displaced by war and forced to rebuild her life from the age of 27, she later discovered painting as a powerful form of expression. Today, her richly textured works explore emotion, landscape, and the enduring spirit of the human experience.
